Technology advisory services
Communications in all its forms touches our lives, enabl-ing a more
inclusive, liberated society and stimulating economic growth.
Communications technology is becom-ing more complex, evolving
quicker than ever, with the introduction of new technology and its
services being constrained by regulatory barriers and incumbent
services.
These services and technologies are converging into single handheld devices, offering television, e-mail and telephony and computer services. The technology relies on spectrum availability and networks to route the information, with interoperability at all levels. Therefore it is becoming more important to ensure that the regulatory, spectrum and Standards/Technology issues are considered at an early stage on a global scale to ensure that the socio-economic and business objectives are met.

At Mott MacDonald our consultants use evidence based approaches to deliver advice to our customers, which takes account of emerging technology, markets, standards, regulation, legal and economic issues. The services we offer include:
- strategic regulatory advice – advising regulators, manufacturers, operators and start ups on the opportunities and barriers for communication services provision
- spectrum management – advising on the issues and opportunities of spectrum, globally taking into account future technology and what is happening elsewhere such as Liberalisation, Spectrum Trading, Overlay and Underlay licensing and economically based spectrum charging
- spectrum engineering and interference management – advising on the level of interference protection afforded to services, determines the QoS and re-use of services, which is directly linked to capacity of the service, which will invariably have an impact on its economic viability of the service
- technology appraisal – our experience of technology at standardisation bodies, the ITU, CEPT and use in many of our system designs and installations, gives us a broad perspective of current and future technology, its application and whether it will meet the business and user requirements
- spectrum monitoring and re-farming - to introduce new wireless services one of the main barriers is incumbent use; monitoring the spectrum can provide a full picture of its use to assist in re-farming the users to other frequencies/bands
