Environment

Parched landIn a joint venture with Turkish firm Telmelsu International, Mott MacDonald was appointed by the Kazakh government to supervise dyke construction and to design the Syr Darya River works as part of an innovative scheme aimed at saving the Aral sea from extinction

Across the Mott MacDonald Group our environmental activities range from assessing the impacts of major international and trans-national construction projects to designing brownfield restoration schemes to conservation and biodiversity enhancement projects in tropical rainforests.

The experience and expertise of our staff are also in high demand for the establishment of business policy and strategy, and for advising on environmental risks and liabilities during mergers and acquisitions.

We take pride in the integration of environmental considerations with all our work. It is an intrinsic part of our culture to achieve a balance of environmental considerations within infrastructure projects, especially as part of the early planning or EIA process.

Illustrating the broad scope of our portfolio are projects such as:
  • planning for a new tunnel beneath the Devil’s Punchbowl on the main road between London and the south coast of England, to restore the area to its natural beauty and serenity while avoiding pollution of local water resources and protecting vulnerable species
  • helping understand and better protect the rich biodiversity of West Tien Shan’s national parks, a unique area extending through Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and
  • advising 3 Rivers Wet Weather, a non-profit body in the USA helping 83 communities tackle sewage overflow problems together through federally funded grants
We have environmental centres of excellence in our main offices in America, Europe, the Middle East, South Asia and Asia Pacific. They work together to bring our best expertise from around the world to focus on a customer’s needs, whether it be golf course development on landfills in Hong Kong, environmental management of the construction of an oil pipeline from Central Asia to Europe, or the appraisal of environmental liabilities from investment in eastern Europe.
