Environmental management services

We surveyed more than 50 UK sites for a leading international electronic solutions provider as part of developing its environmental management system (EMS) and policy – we then helped implement the company’s ISO 14001 EMSResponsible organisations recognise that environmental management is not simply an add-on to normal activities but must be integrated with other management systems. At Mott MacDonald we provide the integrated services our customers need to manage their environmental obligations, risks and liabilities, both in normal operations and in new investments and acquisitions.

We help businesses develop environmental management systems in accordance with ISO 14000 for whole organisations and for just local operations. An environmental management system (EMS) must be owned by the business, but for our customers we have facilitated policy and system development, prepared EMS toolkits and provided the training that managers and staff need to understand and manage their environmental effects.

Mott MacDonald provides environmental auditing services in their widest sense, to assess compliance of an organisation, site or project not only with its EMS, but also with national and international legislation and requirements. We are fully conversant with the Equator Principles accepted by private sector funders to ensure the proper adoption of environmental and social protection measures, as well as with the environmental policies of the World Bank and other international lenders.

Our experience in a wide range of cultures and administrative systems means that our staff are in demand to assist with institutional strengthening and capacity building as countries and organisations strive to meet new controls. Our work on the EU-funded Joint Rivers Management Programme is a typical example – here we helped seven NIS countries develop the systems they need to conform to the Water Framework Directive.
